The security code is a security standard for credit cards. All newly issued credit cards have three additional digits that are added to the card number on the back of the card. On American Express cards, this four digit code is printed on the front of the card. These numbers are found only on the credit card itself and in the database of the credit card company. This security code is used to determine whether the payer is the rightful cardholder.
